Johns’ dream is to make a difference in people’s lives.

He has seen so much suffering and despair in people who just need someone to care. From people on the street, to families of domestic violence to just the everyday pensioner doing it tough, and if just the smallest gift of support or aid can brighten up someone’s day, he is happy.

Proceeds from Johns book Invisible Scars helps fund his Community Projects and brightens many people’s lives.

John’s second book 2190 The Heartland, is a light hearted read of people in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s who grew up in the Sydney and Western surrounding suburbs. It is made up of stories, memories and recollections from this period. John strongly believes that he was moulded into the man he is today from growing up in an era, where it took a village to raise a child, and this was certainly highlighted in John’s books to date.

Whilst John’s most recently published book The Heartland & Beyond is a continuation of stories, anecdotes and memories of what he calls the best years of his life.

Current Fundraiser

Hi all
Back from my annual visit to the Port Villa Suango- Mele school and so proud of the kids who all are doing so well in their studies. Imhonoured to be able to help support them through the tough times, as again we have to rebuild one of the classrooms destroyed in the last cyclone. Due to your support we were also able to help out financially the kids from a neighboring school, and special thanks to their teacher for allowing us the photo. I’d like to take the opportunity to encourage you all to my web site www.moffscommunityprojects.com.

It’s with your help in buying my book Invisible Scars, and E books or sharing so others might, that affords me to be able to help those less fortunate . I look forward to a planned food run in Syd and Bris for those sleeping rough on our streets at present. To those behind my latest drive to buy and have transported to the school the Fairy Floss machine pictured below, a massive shout out of thanks, it will be used for fund raising to raise much needed funds to build an under cover area for the students, and will also be used at the cruise dock terminal.

ONE BOOK AT A TIME HELPS SOMEONE IN NEED

The boys, thanks to the community, donated some much needed cash to an elderly pensioner and ex-navy serviceman on the Central Coast, who had fallen on hard times.

Feeding the homeless in Sydney has been one of the most personal and rewarding for John and Tom so far.

The boys donate some much needed blankets to the homeless via Rosies.

All who buy Johns book can nominate a person doing it tough in their community or an organization that could do with some much needed injection of funds, then if chosen are help via monetary or necessary equipment to make life that little bit easier.

One satisfying project was an ex-navy serviceman who had fallen on hard times, to where his electricity was to be disconnected and with rent arrears was looking at possible eviction, so with this sorted they then, They have also used money from the sales of Johns book to buy blankets, towels and wooly wear to donate to an organization called Rosies who distribute warm clothing, essentials and food to the homeless.

Another completed project that was close to John’s heart was a pay it forward promise that both John and his wife Donna had made, this being if the time came to leave their successful cleaning business, rather than sell they would give it to a suitable family in the hope this would change their lives for the better.

Whilst he looks forward to the non-perishable food runs in Sydney and Brisbane, the clip above is of the very first one back in 2017.

Author lifts the lid on orphanage up bringing

Invisible Scars, the written memoirs of John Moffatt Smith, who not only tells of his horrific start to life within the orphanage institution, but also his incredible journey he faced in finding his lost birth family members, being 16 sisters and 13 brothers with 2 further brothers since unearthed who are scattered to all parts of Australia and abroad. Whilst proving the time old adage that life can be a game of inches, as he had in fact crossed paths with many of his siblings on numerous occasions when growing up.

John also hopes by sharing his story that others may find the peace to move on in their lives.

John would like to thank you guys in the community for buying his books, as none of this would be possible without your support.

It would be amiss of me if I did not include the content of a letter that holds dear to John’s heart, it’s from an old school friend who purchased Johns memoirs, and who he has recently reconnected with.

He wrote

“I am so proud of you to become the man you have, after the struggles you endured. I intended to read Invisible Scars over the course of a few weeks, but with heavy heart and heavier eyelids was unable to put it down and managed to finish in two days. I have only two words Thank you”.

Your friend
Craig Jeffcoate.

At a recent Authors talk, John was asked how he did not end up a bitter and revenge driven man, due to his horrific early childhood. And what John said next will stay with me forever. He replied, Sir I can only speak for myself, but I chose to believe if I change just one thing from my past, then I have for sure changed my future, therefore I would not have been at the place and time I first laid eyes on the greatest thing on this earth, my wife and rock, who gave me my children, who then gave me my grandchildren. So if going through what I had to endure was the trade-off for my future, then I am blessed and the luckiest man alive.
